I’m finally out of my “maintenance” mode and can start blogging. My apologies if I flooded your RSS feeds these few weeks while I’m doing all the re-categorizing and re-tagging.
So now introducing you the new TheLittleMom.com. I have changed the theme and finally re-wrote my cannot-make-it About page (though I think it still cannot make it). I hope you like the new design.
I have also thought through the focus of this blog during the few weeks of maintenance. I guess the focus of my blog will now be on Fun Activities for the family. It can be with the kids or without. For example, my effort to mark playgrounds all over Singapore in Play@SG is part of the fun activities with the kids. Reading with the kids or for personal enjoyment is also a fun activity. So you will still expect some more book reviews coming along the way. It seems like my Fun Activities cover a broad spectrum. Haha. That is my way of playing cheat. I just hope I can cover more Parents only activities. So if you have any suggestion, please share with me.
With the focus changing to be more family oriented, I pluck out my courage and privatize all my blog posts before Zai was born. And that amount to 1000 over posts spanning across 6 years. Except for the very very first blog post I made.
Nonetheless, I hope you have enjoy reading TheLittleMom.com so far, and will continue to support me. 🙂
I think I was very fortunate to attend the SMB Blogger Event 2014. This event was organized by Christy, and members from the SMB were invited to the event.
At first, I was a little apprehensive about going for the event as I’m shy by nature and is not comfortable in a group setting. Especially if the group consist of people who already knew each other. But the topic really interest me and I want to know more about blogging. And I’m glad I did take the step to go. I learned a lot from the workshop and is full of awe for some Mummies (They put an IT personnel like me to shame).
I learned about the differences between categories and tags. Apparently I have been doing it all wrong. And more likely I have done it the opposite way. In a nutshell, categories should be broad while tags should give more details. I remember the time and effort I took to organize my categories years back, now I need to do again *cries*. So be warned, if you receive a whole list of updates from my RSS feed, please ignore them as I’m likely just changing the tags and categories.
I also learned about finding my voice. I have to admit at some point in time, I did change my writing style to make myself “sound” more funny in the hope of attracting more readership. Yes, I have learned to be myself, and now I’m still rethinking what are the pillars for my blog, i.e what am I going to focus on.
And of course, I got to understand Google Analytics better. Page views are easy to understand, but I get to know this thing call bounce rate. I also found out that feed reading does not add to your page view. Now I know why some blogger only had partial post in their feeds. Much as I’m tempted to do the same, but as a reader myself, I do know the frustration of having partial post in feeds. And they do result in me deleting the subscription. So, nope I’m not changing to partial post. So please help me to know that you are reading by commenting on my post when it interest you? Or a simple like will do fine. Thanks.
Of course a lot of the information shared that day can be found online. However, they provided a good entry point for me, and motivated me to write better and rethink the direction for my blog. So Thank You Christy for organizing this and the fellow Mom bloggers who shared your valuable knowledge that day (Rachel, Chrystal and Dominique). I had an enjoyable time and learn lots.
P.S. We were told to reduce an event post. Erm I just flouted the rule.
This space has been very quiet this month as I’m too caught up with work. I planned a list of blog post to write but haven’t found the time to write it. I also planned to start a series on this blog in conjunction with its birthday, but the first post is still in my head. Hopefully next month will be better *cross fingers*.
A good thing though is that I finally bought my iPad mini. Or rather I conned Chubby into giving me one. So at least now I don’t need to open up my laptop to blog. And I can blog on the go! I tried in the past to blog on my iPhone, it just doesn’t work with that small screen. (This post is actually created from my iPad mini.) I’m loving it!
This shall be my motivation to keep up with my blogging. Hopefully I can blog again soon!
My blog celebrated its 9th birthday last Wednesday. I cannot imagine that I have actually blogged for 9 years. I first started the blog because it was an “in” thing then. I have no clues what I’m going to write about and just wanted to check out what is this thing about “blog”. Having an online diary was what my friend told me at that time. I was a little perplexed. I mean, aren’t diary suppose to be private? I remember those days where diary comes with a tiny lock so we can lock all our thoughts up. The thought of sharing my thoughts openly never really occurred to me.
So the beginning days of my blogs were dedicated mainly to the Mayday, a Taiwanese band which I was really into, and it basically also just record what I did in my daily life. Slowly it turned into a place where I voice my frustrations (especially in work) and a channel to subtly tell my friends what I dare not tell them in person, knowing that they read my blog. So there wasn’t much reader on my blog, they were mainly my friends. That didn’t really matter to me.
As I matures, I learn to take things in stride. So there were less complain posts. However, that also mean that I no longer know what I want to do with the blog. The posts dwindle and I also contemplated closing my blog. Things took another turn (for the better) when the kids came along. I suddenly found a motivation to continue blogging. I wanted to record down the milestones of my kids. The activities we did together. The fun we had. Meeting a group of fellow mother bloggers also spurs me to not only continue to blog but improve on the content of my blog posts.
So the blog posts turned into a record of my life with the kids. I changed the blog title to better align to the posts in my blog and even contemplated to change my blog address to match it. After giving it much thought, I decide against it. Much as I love my kids and most of my blog posts do revolve around them, I decide that I should respect my blog as she is. She holds my past and will continue to contain my future. And more importantly, I want to remind myself that my life should not revolve around just the kids. I should remember myself as a person.
As for the future, I’m not expecting myself to turn into some famous blogger, or to make money out of my blog. However, to say that I do not wish to have more readers is a total lie. I certainly hope that I could post up useful information base on my experience parenting my two kids as well as throwing some thoughts about certain issues. Hence, since the beginning of October I decide to change my style of writing. I tried to package day to day life events into information that may appeal to readers and providing some tips/reviews base on that (thanks to Gingerbreadmum for pointing this out). I also hope to put up at least a blog post with relate to parenting each week and hopefully a non-parenting post once a month. Not very ambitious, just wanted to start small and hope that my blog can really balance out one day.
I’m very honored to received the award from Mummy Ed. Seriously, I never thought my post will be of inspiration to anybody. I basically just blog whatever comes to my mind and to write down the time with the kids. So imagine the surprise and honor when I see her putting me up for the award. If I can I wish to give the award to her too. She is also my inspiration.
3 Things I enjoy about Motherhood
Having an official reason to play with toys and taking kiddy rides in theme parks.
Seeing the kids laugh for the simplest reason and spreading the joy to everyone.
Spending my weekends filled with activities.
Surprisingly, I have a hard time coming up with the 3 things I enjoy. Not that I don’t enjoy motherhood, its just difficult to put them in words. At the end of the day, its the love for them that makes even day-to-day things special. So its really hard to explain Motherhood / Parenthood as a whole.
There are many Mummy bloggers that I follow and try to read diligently whenever possible. So its a hard choice now. I shall try to avoid selecting those who have already receive the reward.
I changed my blog title today. It used to be called “小不點看世界”. You can read about how the name come about here. Searching for the post I realise I have been using this blog title since November 2006, that is coming to 6 years. Time flies.
So why change the name now? Well, the main reason is because I haven’t been blogging in Chinese for a long while, so I guess its time to change away the Chinese title, plus I think its time to re-position the blog. Furthermore, 小不點 is no longer “小”, she is already a Mom of two so this nick will have to “walk” into history (*sobs, I don’t want to grow up!*), hence the title no longer make sense.
So why “The Little Mom”? Well, I still love my nick a lot, to translate 小不點 it means “Little”. Besides, this blog revolves around my kids these days. Hence I think “Little Mom” seems to fit the bill. Furthermore, I think there is always so much to learn in Motherhood. All I know is so “Little”.
So with this name does it mean that I will be blogging just on my kids? I guess they will still take up like 90% of the blog posts. However, I will still wish to find time and blog about my own thoughts of other things outside motherhood. And also on the activities without the kids or better still if I’m able to go back to reading on the books I read.
So welcome to the first post under the blog title “The Little Mom”.
